Margaret Duncan A.Mus.A. , LTCL , BA (Hons.)
TEACHER OF PIANO & MUSICIANSHIP
I have many years of musical experience as a teacher, pianist, violinist, and accompanist for choirs, exams, auditions and concerts. I have an A.Mus.A. and L.T.C.L. in Piano and later studied with Daniel Herscovitch.
I teach Piano, Theory and Musicianship in private schools and from my home in Kirribilli, with a strong focus on good sight-reading skills, aural training and theory awareness using the latest methods, to maximise enjoyment of playing. Good note-reading from the beginning makes everything so much easier.
Finding the right repertoire is a passion of mine, and I like to work with the student to help them choose pieces which really suit them and which they will love working on. To me this is the best way to bring out all their potential for expressive playing.
I’m equally happy coaching younger students (6 and up) to get the best results in exams, or helping adult students returning to piano to rediscover the joy of playing.
Exams are not compulsory, but very helpful in motivating the practice and progress which are so essential to enjoyment!
Parental involvement is most welcome and you are invited to sit in on lessons at any time.

Nonna Kretsu Dip.Mus. (with Distinction) , Specialist Diploma (Ukraine)
TEACHER OF PIANO , MUSICIANSHIP & THEORY
Nonna is dynamic and motivated, with experience a little over 20 years in teaching piano, solfeggio, theory, basics of composition. She is delightful to be around, that makes everyone who studies with her try different music styles, with ease and pleasure. She does encourage her students to discover all possible sides of music, to acquire a variety of skills that will unlock individual potential. Her enthusiasm is very catchy. Extensive knowledge in teaching technique allows her to create an individually balanced programs, based on contemporary technology and latest research in education, within the scope of current AMEB, Trinity examinations frameworks.
All that knowledge is based on extensive education in music, that she started music studies at the age of 6 in her hometown in Crimea, Ukraine. Soon enough she was winning State Youth Art Performing Competitions, and participating in countless concerts at local venues. That alone helped her to make the decision to become a professional musician. The following 9 years were spent studying at Simferopol Music College, Crimea, Ukraine (Honors) and Donetsk State S.S. Prokofiev Conservatory, Donetsk, Ukraine, in the classes of prominent Ukranian piano performers Assoc. Prof N.U. Chesnokova, Prof. M.Legotsky. Soon after completing education her family immigrated to New Zealand, where she was actively engaged in piano performing, choir singing and teaching. Last decade in Sydney was spent on further development of teaching techniques, incorporating new technology into everyday teaching.
