Some thoughts for you, the pupil…

Are you interested in progressing your talents on the guitar? Do you have the passion for music and the guitar that will sustain the commitment and dedication necessary to succeed at your musical goals? If you answered yes to these questions, then I would really value discussing your musical ambitions with you. It is my personal opinion that when the combination of these ingredients are combined together with the pupil’s inane talent, a winning formula emerges creating a musical journey that prospers and thrives. This could be your journey to life long pleasurable music making.

About Me …

I began studying the piano at age 7 but was quickly drawn to the evocative sounds of the guitar. This led me to change instruments at 10 and undertake a lifelong study of the guitar. My relationship with the guitar blossomed into a life long career as a player, teacher, performer, composer and perpetual student of the instrument.

My early guitar career began with performing in rock bands however, I soon became absorbed with the subtle sounds of classical, jazz and Latin American music. This led to me to a formal music education graduating with a Teachers Licentiate (Distinction) in Guitar from Trinity College of London.

During more than 30 years of teaching all ages and levels, my professional appointments have included universities, performing arts schools and conservatories, as well as adjudicating guitar competitions.

Alan Plummer A.Mus.A. , L.Mus.A. (Classical Guitar)
Teacher of Guitar

Alan Plummer is a Sydney based professional guitar player and teacher. Teaching locations are Sydney City, Penrith Conservatorium of Music, and the Blue Mountains. Qualifications held are the A.Mus.A. and L.Mus.A. for classical guitar. The ‘Working With Children’ certificate is held also.

Lessons are focused on achieving goals. These range from school concert performances, to AMEB exams, to simply wanting to learn a particular piece of music for the love of it. Alan has taught at many Sydney schools, and over twenty years of performance experience includes two years at Star City, six months at the regent Hotel (now the four Seasons), and the Utzon Room and Bennelong restaurant at the Sydney Opera House.

Alan is experienced in a wide range of music and styles. At one end of the scale there is simple folk music, and at the other end, is the modern and virtuosic music of South America – most of which are Tangos. The backbone of the instruments’ repertoire is the romantic music of Spain, from the late 19th and 20th centuries, made so popular by Segovia.

Being a well rounded musician is important for teaching. At different times, Alan has been a full time professional bass player, in both rock music, orchestras, and shows, and playing electric guitar. The classical instrument has been his full time interest for the past twenty five years.
