Teacher of Brass
Andrew holds degrees from the Universities of Sydney, Western Sydney, New England and British Colombia (Canada). He has also studied Baroque performance practice at the Schola Basiliensis in Switzerland, and in London and Boston. His graduate study in education included research into linking jazz improvisation as a vehicle to preparing examination technical work for school students.
Andrew’s career has included a mix of performance, teaching and conducting. He was a casual member (Trumpet) of the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra from 1984 to 1996 and has performed with many of the major musical organisations in Australia. He was founder and director of the Blues Point Brass Quintet from 1990 to 1996 and also appeared as a recitalist and soloist with many of Sydney’s community orchestras and recital venues. As a teacher of brass, he was on staff at the Newtown High School for the Performing Arts, the Australian International Conservatorium of Music and Sydney Grammar School, as well as running a private studio in Ashfield before moving to Canada in 1996. There he studied conducting in the Opera School at UBC, performed with various orchestras and ensembles including the Vancouver and Okanagan Philharmonic Orchestras and was musical director for numerous premiere performances.
On his return to Australia he took a position at Trinity Grammar School, where he teaches brass, directs various ensembles and repairs instruments as part of a large and productive music department. Andrew has an extensive knowledge of the repertoire and his teaching approach strives to develop students with the skills to enjoy performing on their instruments. He is also Musical Director of the Mosman Symphony Orchestra and maintains an active studio in Summer Hill.
He still maintains a busy performing schedule and has also appeared as a guest conductor for the University of New South Wales Orchestra and Wind Band, North Sydney, Lane Cove Youth and Willoughby Orchestras. At other times he explores NSW coastal waters, researching maritime history as part of The Secret Squirrels dive group.

Teacher of Brass
Matt has over 15 years experience teaching brass instruments and conducting/directing band programs in both primary & secondary schools across Sydney, and has a particular passion for teaching beginners! He has also taught trumpet at tertiary level at The University of Adelaide.
He holds the Bachelor of Music (Performance) from The Sydney Conservatorium of Music, as well as a Diploma of Education (Secondary) with some experience as a classroom music teacher.
In addition to his tertiary studies, Matt has completed conducting courses with The Australian Band & Orchestra Directors Association’s of NSW & Victoria, and The Australian Winds.
Matt is also a professional musician working frequently with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Opera & Ballet Orchestra, as well as having held permanent positions as Principal Trumpet of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and 2nd Trumpet of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. He has also worked as Guest Principal Trumpet with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, and with the AOBO.
